Character's Canon Abilities:
[Yamanaka Clan Techniques]

Ino excels in the techniques of her clan, which are primarily focused around mind-affecting techniques such as the Mind BodySwitch Technique, a jutsu predominantly used for reconnaissance, that allows the user to briefly possess someone and control that person’s actions. Her body however, is left vulnerable until she cancels the technique. Despite many people thinking that this technique is unbeatable, she can still be forced out of the body if her opponent is physically very strong or has a strong enough will. She has also been shown to be able to use the technique on animals, such as hawk to act as a spy. This jutsu was originally invented as a spying technique. The anime takes her skills a bit further by giving her the Mind Body Disturbance Technique, which causes the body of the person affected to attack those nearest to them, or immobilizing their body.

By the time of the Fourth Shinobi World War, her timing with the Mind Body Switch Technique has improved to a point that she only needs a target to be briefly immobilized in order to invade their mind. According to Inoichi, her use and releasing of the technique has improved drastically. She was able to quickly transfer her mind into a paralyzed Chouji to block a point-blank range attack from Asuma Sarutobi, and then fight skilfully inside Chōji’s body.

[Medical Ninjutsu]

Ino learned medical ninjutsu during the gap in time between Parts I and II. The anime shows that Ino trained in medical ninjutsu alongside Sakura under Tsunade’s supervision. Ino has proven to be skilled enough to be able to tell the severity of an attack with just a glance. With the knowledge of plants and flowers she gained in her family’s flower shop, she also has the capability to create herbal medicines. She has also gained better chakra control because of her study in medical techniques.

[Intelligence]

Ino had some of the highest grades in the Academy, on par with Uchiha Sasuke. While she does not have the most intelligence out of Team 10 (Shikamaru definitely gets that), she is rather intelligent in her own right as well. She can tell a person's occupation from their palms, is able to identify the functions of many plants, and can come up with a quick escape strategy if she needs to (With the help of Shikamaru and Chouji, of course).

Character Personality: Part I
Ino, for somebody who scored top marks in the Ninja Academy, is extremely superficial. Appearance is everything to her, which is both a strength and a weakness. She is able to tell somebody's occupation by the condition of their hands, but she's also extremely vain in her appearance. With her blonde hair and blue eyes, Ino - even at the age of 12 - is already trying to make herself look like a bombshell in an attempt to get Sasuke to notice her. Or any other cute boy, actually. While it's definitely not her top priority, it's still up there.

Ino Yamanaka, like all Yamanakas, is very stubborn. She has a kind heart and cares deeply for her friends (to the point of being a nagger, if you ask Shikamaru), and will do anything to keep them safe. Despite Team 10 always being the ones to run away from a battle, when Sakura was held up in the Forest during the Chuunin Exam, Ino jumped right in to defend her from the other Genin that were about ready to finish her off. Of course, she knows that she (and the rest of Team 10) are weak and their strong suit is not charging into battle. When she gets an idea in her head, she will try her hardest to make sure she can pull it off.

Ino can get carried away with some things, like her rivalry with Sakura over Sasuke, but the events that happened during the Chuunin Exam helped to rebuild those bridges and they are less like frenemies and more like typical teenage friends. She can over-react to some things and somehow still put the blame on the other person. She is basically the definition of a brat. If some things don't go her way, there is a good likelihood that she will pout and send out some death glares.

Confidence is something that oozes from Ino on a daily basis. She thinks she's God's gift to everybody, and while she is proud, she knows when to admit defeat (not that it happens very often). Despite her confidence, she is aware that team 10 is not an offensive team and that they are without a doubt the weakest of the Rookie Nine. Instead of her shinobi abilities, Ino takes pride in her appearance and her knowledge in flowers and romance. She knows she'll become a better kunoichi with time, but she gets preoccupied with dieting, boys, and shopping sometimes when she should be training.

Part II

Not much has changed since the time skip in the animanga. Ino is still superficial, stubborn, and protective of her friends. Her relationship with Sakura has improved (somewhat) and they're more friends than enemies, but the term frenemies still applies to them.

Being a kunoichi is first and foremost in her mind. Her real talent is in her medical ninjutsu, but her abilities with Shintenshin have greatly improved. Timing and aim are what she's really been practicing on, doing only the bare minimum in taijutsu to at least be able to keep up with what a Chuunin should be able to do. She always tries 110% in missions; failure is not an option. She holds the title of Chuunin proudly and does her best to be a good representative to her fellow shinobi of what being a Shinobi of the Leaf entails. Of course, nobody is perfect.

Ino is still very much a teenager. She's bitchy, over-reacts at times, and obsessed with looks. Dieting and shopping are what take up her free time when she's not on a mission or training. She isn't obsessed with it, but it does provide a nice distraction. There's no doubt that it's her favorite hobby. Boys, too, are also a nice distraction. Flirting is not something foreign to Ino, nor is she uncomfortable flirting with a cute boy. She has a very healthy self-esteem and loads of confidence, and she doesn't mind lending some to a friend in need. She's always willing to give a makeover or give a girlfriend some love advice.

Emotions have become more complicated since three years ago when she was a young Genin. She has gained more love and respect for the village as a whole, which greatly contributes to her love for being a kunoichi. She would gladly sacrifice her life to keep Konoha safe from enemies. She cried when the Konoha 11 decided to take out Sasuke now that he was a threat, even though she knew it was the only real plan that had any chance of working. She never gave up hope (like Sakura and Naruto) that Sasuke would return once again to Konoha. She's sentimental, and keeps close bonds with the old Konoha 9 gang. She has managed to somewhat control her temper, though she slips up every once in a while, as every other teenage girl does.

Stubbornness runs in the Yamanaka clan, and Ino is no exception. She is headstrong and is confident in her ideals, morals, and decisions. If an idea gets into her head, she'll try her damn hardest to see it through to the finish line. Nevermind if it's a bad idea or not. She isn't terribly impulsive, but she has emotional moments where she makes rash decisions. Thankfully, they don't happen very often. Despite her lacking abilities as a hand-to-hand fighter, Ino stubbornly refuses to lose to Sakura. Not in strength, and definitely not in love; she'd promised that to Asuma, after all.

Confidence is probably Ino's best known trait. And it's not imagined, either. She is a force to be reckoned with, alone as well as with Shikamaru and Choji. She takes charge and bosses others around (most notably her teammates) because, really, Ino does know best. And she can't stand it when people are lazy and don't take action. She isn't a mean bitch - she can be pretty nice, actually - but sometimes her bossy nature gets mistaken for a bitchy attitude.
